A tragic road accident on the Nagpur–Tuljapur Highway claimed the lives of two women and left six others seriously injured after a car carrying devotees rammed into a stationary truck parked on the roadside. The horrific accident took place around 7 AM on Saturday, May 23, near Nagthana area on the Wardha bypass route. The deceased have been identified as Kishori Pradeep Uke (49) and Monali Nilesh Meshram (37), both residents of Nagpur.
According to police officials, the group had travelled to Pandharpur and Akkalkot for religious darshan and was returning to Nagpur in a car bearing registration number MH 49 U 0179. The vehicle was being driven by Tushar Laxman Jadhav (37).
As the car was passing between Sawangi T-Point and Nagthana near a petrol pump on the Wardha bypass, it reportedly crashed into a truck parked on the roadside. The truck, bearing registration number UP 70 LT 0830, was allegedly stationed without reflectors or any warning indicators. Initial reports suggest that due to poor visibility and lack of safety precautions, the driver suddenly noticed the truck and lost control of the vehicle before crashing directly into it.
The impact of the collision was extremely severe, completely crushing the front portion of the car. Several passengers sustained critical injuries, including children travelling in the vehicle. The injured have been identified as Tanish Chandrashekhar Uke (6), Divanshi Nilesh Meshram (10), Aradhya Santosh Uke (13), Ishan Anil Barskar (17), Nita Anil Barskar (55), Sadhana Anil Barskar (56), and Kanchan Chandrashekhar Uke (42).
Soon after receiving information, police teams from Sawangi (Meghe) Police Station and the traffic department rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case against truck driver Mohammad Junaid Mohammad Anis (24), a resident of Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and further investigation is currently underway.
