Nagpur | Smart City Digital Kiosks Go Offline

Desk | Nagpur

Residents of Nagpur are facing increasing inconvenience after several digital kiosks installed under the Smart City project reportedly stopped functioning across different parts of the city. These kiosks, introduced to provide quick public services and digital information, have remained non-operational for several weeks, raising concerns about maintenance and the effective implementation of smart infrastructure.

The digital kiosks were originally set up to help citizens access services such as government information, city maps, emergency contacts, public transport details, bill payments, and tourism-related guidance. However, many citizens claim that the screens are either completely shut down or displaying technical errors, making them unusable.

Local commuters and visitors have expressed disappointment over the condition of the kiosks, especially in busy areas where they were expected to assist the public. Several residents stated that despite the city being promoted as a “Smart City,” the failure of these digital facilities reflects poor monitoring and lack of timely technical support.

Sources suggest that issues related to software glitches, internet connectivity, and delayed maintenance contracts could be among the reasons behind the shutdown of the kiosks. However, no official detailed statement has yet been released regarding when the services will be restored. The issue has also sparked criticism on social media, with citizens questioning the expenditure on smart city projects if essential digital systems cannot be maintained properly. Residents are now demanding immediate repairs and regular monitoring to ensure that public digital infrastructure remains functional and beneficial for everyday use.
