In a major setback to the Maoist movement, top Maoist leader Misir Besra is reportedly facing growing pressure as nearly 15 Maoist commanders are expected to surrender before security forces in the coming days. The development is being seen as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing anti-Naxal operations across Maoist-affected regions.
According to reports, continuous operations by security forces and increasing pressure in forest regions have weakened Maoist networks, forcing several senior cadres to reconsider their involvement in the insurgency. Many commanders are believed to be in contact with police officials and are likely to surrender soon.
Sources said the recent arrest of wanted Maoist leader Bela and the surrender of several cadres have further intensified concerns within the Maoist organization. Officials believe these developments have created panic among underground Maoist groups linked to Misir Besra.
Security agencies have also claimed that rehabilitation schemes, financial assistance, and employment opportunities offered by state governments are encouraging Maoists to return to mainstream society. Over the past few months, several Maoist members and commanders have surrendered in regions including Gadchiroli and neighboring Maoist-affected areas.
Experts believe that if the reported mass surrender takes place, it could deal another major blow to the Maoist leadership structure and weaken the influence of insurgent groups operating in central India. Security forces continue to intensify search operations in sensitive forest zones to prevent Maoist activities and encourage more cadres to surrender peacefully.
