Nagpur: Vijay Wadettiwar Slams Mahayuti Govt Over ‘OBC Neglect’

Desk | Nagpur

Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar has strongly criticized the BJP-led Mahayuti government, alleging that its policies have consistently been detrimental to the interests of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community. Speaking on issues related to social justice and welfare, Wadettiwar claimed that the ruling alliance has repeatedly used the OBC community as a political tool to gain power but has failed to ensure its meaningful development once in government.

According to Wadettiwar, the Mahayuti government has a history of seeking support from OBC voters during elections and then prioritizing established and influential sections of society after assuming power. He argued that this pattern has been witnessed repeatedly over the years, resulting in growing dissatisfaction among members of the OBC community.

“The BJP-led Mahayuti government’s approach has always been harmful to the OBC community. The ruling parties use OBCs to gain political power, but once in power, they move closer to the established classes and push OBCs to the sidelines,” Wadettiwar alleged.

While expressing concern over the treatment of OBCs, the Congress leader clarified that he is not opposed to the welfare and development of any other community. However, he emphasized that government benefits and concessions should be distributed in a fair and balanced manner, taking into account the population and needs of each social group.

Wadettiwar also raised the issue of educational assistance for OBC students. He demanded that students from the OBC community should receive 100 percent scholarship support, arguing that access to quality education is essential for social and economic advancement. According to him, many students from economically weaker families continue to face difficulties in pursuing higher education due to financial constraints.

The senior leader further urged the government to ensure that policy decisions designed for the welfare of other communities do not adversely affect the rights and benefits currently available to OBCs. He said that while formulating new policies, authorities must take special care to protect the interests of the OBC community and maintain social balance.

Wadettiwar’s remarks have added momentum to the ongoing debate surrounding reservation policies, educational benefits, and social justice in Maharashtra. With OBC organizations increasingly raising concerns over representation and welfare measures, the issue is expected to remain a significant topic in the state’s political discourse in the coming months.
