A devastating road accident shook Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district after a speeding State Transport (ST) bus lost control and overturned, leaving three people dead — including a seven-month-old infant — and injuring at least 34 passengers. The tragic incident has once again raised serious concerns about road safety and reckless driving on state highways.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred when the bus, reportedly traveling at high speed, suddenly went out of control on a sharp stretch of road. Eyewitnesses stated that the driver appeared unable to control the vehicle before it overturned violently on the roadside, causing panic and chaos among passengers.
The impact of the crash was so severe that several passengers were trapped inside the mangled bus. Local residents and police officials rushed to the spot immediately after the accident and began rescue operations. Windows of the bus were broken to pull out injured passengers, many of whom were bleeding and crying for help.
Among the deceased was a seven-month-old baby whose death has left the entire region in shock and grief. Two other passengers also lost their lives on the spot due to severe injuries. The injured victims were shifted to nearby hospitals, where several are said to be in critical condition.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the accident. Initial suspicions point toward overspeeding and possible negligence. Officials are also examining the technical condition of the bus and questioning transport authorities regarding safety measures.
The heartbreaking tragedy has sparked anger among citizens, with many demanding stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and better monitoring of public transport vehicles. Families of the victims are mourning an irreparable loss, while survivors continue to battle trauma and injuries caused by the horrific accident.
Police have assured that further action will be taken after the investigation report is completed.
