Investigators revealed a surprising motive behind the crime: two minors allegedly participated in the theft to raise money to buy an expensive iPhone for a female friend.

The burglary took place at the warehouse of Rahul Ceramics Pvt. Ltd., a wholesale supplier of tiles, sanitaryware, and CP fittings owned by businessman Rahul Jaychand Batra (45), a resident of Old Bhandara Road area in Nagpur. The warehouse is located on Dalmill Road in Kalamna.

According to police, unidentified individuals broke into the warehouse between May 27 and May 28, 2026, by removing sections of the tin roofing and entering the premises. The accused allegedly stole premium sanitary fittings and designer faucets valued at approximately ₹11.39 lakh.

Following a complaint, Kalamna Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and launched an intensive investigation. Considering the seriousness of the crime, Deputy Commissioner of Police Annapurna Singh formed a special investigation team led by Police Sub-Inspector Santosh Kumar Ramlod.

The team examined footage from nearly 20 to 35 CCTV cameras installed in and around the area. Using technical analysis and human intelligence inputs, officers tracked down the suspects and laid a trap to apprehend them.

During questioning, investigators learned that the minors had allegedly taken part in the burglary with the intention of arranging funds to purchase a costly iPhone for a girlfriend.
